Community Farm

TEC-CDC and Walnut Hill residents are transforming an 11,580 square-foot plot of land at 4610 Market Street into the Walnut Hill Community Farm. This urban farm will connect residents to where their food comes from and create new local sources of fresh, healthy produce, while developing new community open space for all to enjoy! The Farm includes raised beds for individual community garden plots, as well as rows where local high school youth farm sell the produce to local markets.

The Walnut Hill Community Farm has been developed in cooperation with local residents, the Walnut Hill Community Association, and an Advisory Committee including a diverse set of stakeholders. The Farm is supported by the US Department of Agriculture’s Farmers’ Market Promotion Program, Farm to CityUC Green, and the City Harvest Growers Alliance program of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society.  The land is leased to TEC-CDC on a long-term basis by SEPTA, which is also allowing TEC-CDC to capture rainwater off the roof of the 46th Street El station to water the plants. The Walnut Hill Community Farm received the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s 2011 Community Greening Award. TEC-CDC is grateful to all of the organizations and individuals who made this possible!
