Walnut Hill Time Bank
In 2009, The Enterprise Center CDC received a grant from Coming of Age to develop a volunteer-led Time Bank for the Walnut Hill neighborhood. The Walnut Hill Time Bank strives to increase community interaction, decrease social isolation, and build intergenerational friendships by helping neighbors connect with each other.
Time Banking encourages residents to do favors for their neighbors. When a resident does a favor for another resident, that person earns a Time Dollar and the person who has the favor done for them pays a Time Dollar in exchange. Time Bank members offer services such as hair braiding, prayer group, therapeutic massage, nutrition education, and housekeeping for home-bound neighbors– all for free!
In spring 2011, Master of Industrial Design students Josh Chadwick and Andy Grossman from University of the Arts used their skills to create improvements for the Walnut Hill Time Bank that would increase membership and promote the Time Bank concept to new audiences.
